Bulgarian MEP denied entry to the Republic of North Macedonia

The MEP from EPP Andrey Kovatchev and President of the Bulgarian Memory Foundation Milen Vrabevski and three other people were denied entry to North Macedonia. They were supposed to participate in a memorial service commemorating the Bulgarian soldiers who died in the battles for national unification.

The event has been organized for years by the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje, the Consulate General in Bitola and the Bulgarian Memory Foundation at the Bulgarian military cemetery in Novo Selo, Strumica.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, expressed its strong disappointment with the decision of the authorities in Skopje "to cast a shadow over the solemn celebration of St. George's Day on 6 May."

Despite this situation, the event took place with the participation of representatives of the military diplomatic corps in North Macedonia, students from Bulgaria and, for the first time, a joint service was held between the two Orthodox churches./BGNES
