Christiyan Pendikov, secretary of the Bulgarian cultural club "Tsar Boris III" in Ohrid, was beaten last night.
After the beating he gave a statement to the police. Pendikov was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov held a telephone conversation with his counterpart from the Republic of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, from whom he received assurances of the required assistance from the local authorities.
Bulgaria expects the competent authorities in North Macedonia to take immediate action to identify, prosecute and punish the perpetrators of the crime, taking into account the seriousness of the act. The existence of problems with the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia cannot continue to be denied by both local authorities and international partners. Obviously, this only leads to their deterioration and is incompatible with membership in the European Union, said the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry. /BGNES
