Von der Leyen: The EU has achieved its goal – vaccination of 70% of the population with at least one dose

The European Union has achieved its goal to vaccinate 70% of the adult population against coronavirus with at least one dose by the end of July. This was stated by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

"Our target was to protect 70% of adults in the European Union with at least one vaccination in July. Today we have achieved this target. And 57% of adults already have the full protection of double vaccination”, she said.

These figures put Europe among the world leaders, according to her.

“The catch-up process has been very successful - but we need to keep up the effort. The Delta variant is very dangerous. I therefore call on everyone - who has the opportunity - to be vaccinated. For their own health and to protect others”, Von der Leyen added.

The EU will continue to provide sufficient volumes of vaccine, the head of the EC assure. /BGNES
