Deyana Dragoeva: Unfortunately young people are too affected by influencers and bloggers

Unfortunately, the young are too affected by influencers and bloggers, said Deyana Dragoeva, a lecturer at NBU and writer, on BGNES English-language morning block.

"It is very difficult to make them be creative and understand different views because they accept the subjective opinions of their 'mentors'. In my lectures I try to make them produce creative text, not just news, to choose deeper topics and not stick to the 'surface'."

"There is a change in the way people talk, young people find it difficult to communicate and share their feelings. They have phones, and that's a completely different way of communicating where you don't see the emotions of the other person," she added.

Dragoeva also commented on her book and hinted at the publication of the next one.

"I can say that the book has been well received by the people who are important to me. For the general public, it's harder to judge. My next book is like therapy. It is full of deep things about me. You can expect it soon, next year."

She also shared her views around media culture.

"Media culture now is mostly people coming up on the internet. These are the 'heroes' of the young. Whereas the boring 'old' faces in the media are unknown to them. I think there is also a lack of professionalism. Got a phone - now I'm a script writer, photographer, etc. I personally prefer the old type of media."

Dragoeva also gave details about her youth organisation ViaCivic.

"The goal of my organization is to produce creative products with completely informal training. Everything revolves around experience, to make something you have to have experienced it. With the main points being personal development, storytelling, communication and motivation. The participants are young people who work with children."

"I think we should talk about topics that affect young people. It's a cliché, but it's true that they are the future. We are too occupied by ourselves and the young remain in the shadows. It is important that communication with them is genuine and not politically correct", she concluded. /BGNES
