Desi Morales: I always knew I would become an actress

I always knew that I would become an actress, said actress Desislava Morales on BGNES English-language morning block.

"I always knew I would become an actress. I was 5-6 years old and I knew this is what I wanted to do. Cinema is a magical world and I consider myself blessed. All people who are involved in art are blessed. The first time I was not approved at NATFIS I didn't know how to take it. I don't take no for an answer and I kept going."

"I first started with catering, I wanted to be a part of cinema so much and didn't care what it was. It wasn't my thing, but I was happy, that's how it all started," Morales added.

She also shared details of working with Hollywood and big names in cinema.

"Big names are big for a reason. They have that aura, that charm, they're unique. For example, Morgan Freeman is so charming, he helps people with the set, he has a good heart, so human and dedicated."

"Of the American productions, I like 'Harpies' and 'Lost Colony: The Legend of Roanoke'. I want to say that stuntmen deserve more popularity. These people do so much that goes unappreciated by the general public. They work in the shadows," she said.

Morales also talked about her personal life and love.

"I'm a mother first, I love spending time with my kids, I love talking about them. My children are blessed with such a father, Joel Morales. We met on set and it was love at first sight, 17 years of marriage. We divorced because California is in his soul, Bulgaria in mine. We're very close still, always coming over when there's no work. The kids often travel with him," the actress shared.

She doesn't have an exact answer as to why there are so few Bulgarian actors breaking into the US cinema.

"I have no idea, I've been asking myself the same thing for years. My ex-husband thinks it's the accent because Americans don't like it. The Latin American accent is close to their hearts and then there's no such problem."

"A lot depends on what kind of person you are, an actor is an actor no matter where. You have to be lucky and be yourself. You shouldn't be like everybody else. There's not much difference between being an actor here or an actor in Hollywood," she concluded. /BGNES
